Hey All,
So I just got my self an ASUS ul30vt-a1 for my mobile needs. Unfortunately after about using it for two weeks I started getting BSOD's and windows memory diagnostic said there was a hardware problem.
Looked into it further and ran memtest86 on it to find one of my sticks that came with the laptop was bad. (checked both sticks one at a time and found a working one and use that to make sure it wasn't the slot, etc.)
So started the RMA process and now they want me to send in the whole laptop! I'm skeptical about this as I have heard mixed reviews about ASUS's RMA. Along side that the component list they asked me to fill out has a note on it stating that any components that are lost or damaged are not their problem. Ironically one of those components on the list is the CPU. So if my CPU gets destroyed I'm apparently sore out of luck, or so that's how I read it. Here's the exact words from the paper:
NOTE: ASUS is not responsible for any of these components being damaged or lost. ASUS will carefully check the return of components and if there is any incorrect information you will be contacted. Please print, sign & send this document with your unit.
On another note I did call up ASUS RMA and asked if I could just send in the RAM since I know which stick it is, etc., etc. According to the tech there he said that they do not want people opening up the device and removing any components on their own. I can understand this from a broad point of view, but still the ram isn't soldered onto the board and it takes 2 screws to get to the memory bank. Either way I'm a bit confused as to what to do. Take a chance and RMA the notebook, or use the remaining 2GB working stick and possibly buy another?
TIA
