ASUS UX305FA built in microphone is barely working, if at all, any ideas?

Since buying an ASUS UX305FA I cannot get the built in microphone to work. When on a skype call I was told I sounded a million miles away. if I try to set up speech recognition I get a message saying the microphone cant detect any sound.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by adjusting the microphone levels.
- Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices.
- Right click again on the default microphone listed and select Properties.
- Click on Levels tab and try adjusting the Mic Level and the Mic Boost level.
- Click Apply and OK when set then test it again.
- If all these will not work try to uninstall/reinstall the sound card driver from Device Manager.
- Lastly is to download and install the latest driver update from Asus Support site
