I have an ASUS X200CA Notebook PC. Today I pulled it out (haven't used it in months) and attempted to do a factory reset. At first I just turned it on, to make sure it was working before I performed the reset, and it came on just fine. Then I shut it off and turned it back on, this time while holding the F9 key. I may have been mistaken, but at the time I thought that was the correct way to do a factory reset. A menu came up and the options didn't match the instructions I was reading so I shut the thing off again. Then I tried to turn it back on, and this time it didn't come on. A few lights below the keyboard lit up and the notebook beeped, and then they went dark again. It does this every time I try to turn it on. Lights/tiny beep, then nothing. It's like it's starting to turn on and fails. The screen remains black the whole time. I've tried holding the button down for thirty seconds with the adapter plugged in, with the adapter not plugged in, taking the battery out, putting it back in, etc. Nothing works.

Solution
Try the following and see if it will turn on.

1. First make sure the device has been charged.
2. Unplug your charger cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds and see if the device will turn on.
5. If it does, great, now plug back in the power/charger cord. (If it didn't turn on without the cord in, it should turn on once you it is in. Yes sometimes they will turn on, or try to turn on, even with nothing attached/plugged in.)
6. Now put the battery back in.

If it doesn't turn on, then you may well need to do a factory reset. But I would try the above first.
