Asus X205 stuck in bios

My Asus x205ta boots straight to the bios with no way to start windows.
It began suddenly one evening while I was away from the laptop.
Whatever I do, it goes to a black backlit screen for 1-2sec, then proceeds to BIOS without ever displaying the ASUS splash screen. BIOS does not respond to 'save & exit' or any other way to exit.
Under the Boot menu of BIOS, no boot drives are listed as this only has a SSD storage.
PLEASE HELP

Remove battery and charger, press and hold power button for 30 seconds to reset cmos settings to default, then reattach battery and charger and try booting up.
