Asus x501u Dark Screen, not inverter or screen cable... HELP

I have an asus X501U which got damaged in my bag... The screen got smashed. So I bought a new screen and when I replaced it, it was very very dark.. I could make out shapes with great effort but couldn't read anything... I then thought maybe it was the LCD cable so I went and replaced it too.... Which has made no difference... It is very unlikely anything is wrong with the lcd cable as the webcam and microphone use the same cables/connections.... I have connected the laptop to a screen via hdmi and it works perfectly and so does the webcam and microphone... I also have reset defaults in the BIOS, held down the power button for 30 seconds which is as good as doing a CMOS reset and I have repeatedly pressed fn and f8 to change the video output and nothing works...

Does anyone have any ideas?

Could also be the inverter got damaged, since you will usually get the dark screen with a bad inverter. Possible the backlight was damaged to, not just the screen.
