I have metrocast, paying for 7MB/s, and I get about 850Kb/s MAX. It's utter BS.

At least people like Verizon are looking to the future. We get 26 down and 22 up. Even better is that there is no bandwidth cap. The problem is that it takes a while to get fiber to everybody.

3 mbps for facebook? really? i open facebook with my crappy 381 kbps services just for US$25 a month (tax and hourly dropped connection included) not to mention after 3 gig cap it's throttled to 56 kbps, but again everyone have their own standart.

How about Speedy Unlimited in Indonesia with speed 1 mbps and the price of 40 BIG MAC (1 BIC MAC in Jakarta is about 20,000 IDR or $2)? Slow and Expensive 🙁.

Hm, pretty sure I remember doing 90% of those things on my old 256kb/256kb DSL.

U-Verse isn't simple DSL it's fiber to the closest node then its a dedicated VDSL drop from there. If there isn't a close enough node they may run the fiber right to the house. I have their 16Mbps by 2Mbps which if you done it right cost the same as the 6Mbps. I moved from cable that was 10Mbps by 1Mbps and I do get the full 16Mbps from AT&T. Downloads from faster sites easily hit 1.4MBps Now the connection is actually 24Mbps for me, others get 32 if they have a faster internet connection because the extra 6-7Mbps is dedicated for the IP-TV and VoIP.

The biggest problem I have with AT&T is latency. Cable was better, less hops. The residential gateway I figured would be a problem for the Linux router I use as a gateway/firewall/proxy/vpn end point. I was able to forward the external IP to that machine so everything works. Though the residential gateway supports internal file shares, not a good idea, but it does.

To be fair, video conferencing uses 2-way video. So you have to upload your video stream and download another at the same time. A lot of the rest of the chart is a joke though

Truthfully speaking of speeds and price I'm pretty happy with U-verse and their options. Sure it's more than you might pay in... I don't know... Japan... or in an area with Verizon FIOS but considering the choices in my area (Comcast or U-verse) it really is the better option. I also don't feel that I'm getting screwed either. Also I would say that I'm always within 95% of my advertised speed so I really don't have any complaints there either.
