AT&T to Impose DSL, U-Verse Usage Caps

Yeah... let's see some results of our usage. These also effect hulu and Xbox users ability to stream TV & movies. Which is why bluray isn't going away soon.

So they're mimicking to their cell plan. Are they going to let people rollover 10gb if their usage is say 140gb? ATT DSL users have legitimate right to complain if they don't get rollover.

Gotta love to hate ATT. During Bush Administration, they let the administration spy on US citizen by giving a backroom access to their network without questioning the administration whether it's legal or warranted. Ultimately, they were illegal without FISA warrant but the Bush administration had a ball having a backroom access without check and balance tied to their spying. Thank you ATT for cooperating.

#2 reason: I used to be ATT customer and I told them their prices weren't competitive and requested to see if they can lower my rate by checking different options for me. They said they aren't any. Next year they increased the price even more which prompted me to contact them again saying I'm leaving ATT unless you can offer a better option. The customer rep e-mailed he can't help but call this 800 #. ATT loves their customers...

#3 which really ticked me off: I used to receive these bogus thank you letter (really advertisements). "Thanks for being ATT customer, as a way of saying thanks, here's an offer: 3 deal package for just 99." You know... don't insult me with these letters. If I go to a restaurant, waiter doesn't say, hey thanks for eating here. As a way of saying thanks, here's water. That deal is available to anybody, not just ATT customer.

I have no problem paying $0.01 for 10MB of usage. The problem is when an ISP plays a dollars for random usage levels game that is calculated to trick people in accidently paying accidental fees. A very annoying example of this is an automobile parking lot that charges $8 per day maximum and $3 per hour minimum. Another annoying example is the "late fees" that DVD rental stores charges: $3.00 for 5 days and a $3 late fee if you were 1 minute late returning the DVD to the store. This type of pricing structure is dishonest.

This argument is full of shit. New Zealand for example has had that problem for years. Forcing companies to resort to software in order to keep cached files in its servers in order to save bandwidth. I mean whats gonna happen when services like netflix become global?
I for once am happy though with my 10 megabit fiber plan over here in Brazil

I just switched to U-verse 1 week ago. I don't have a contract signed, so I'm free to leave at any time. I don't consider myself a heavy user. What I'm going to do is use data without thinking about it like before and if I start getting letters in the mail about my usage I'm going to switch back. For all I know I don't even use half of the monthly cap. This might not even affect me.

I don't agree with the cap, considering how much I pay ATT for there 3Mbit package. But saying that, I download like a mother, plus play iRacing which requires a constant connection to there server. As I sit, I'm at 21Gb on my downloads for the month. So I'm not affected to much. Plus there service is much better then the alternative here.

Now if it were 50Gb or 100Gb, I'd have a problem. But 150Gb is pretty good head space, even for someone like me.

I cancelled with these parasites about a month ago when they started pulling some shenanigans throttling speeds to Amazon VOD and Netflix VOD streaming servers. I switched to TWC for the same price and I'm getting faster up and down speeds. Bye Bye AT&T.

Bell Canada does the same nonsense to its customers, and many have since moved over to other ISPs - though the issue here in Canada is a bit unique because Bell Canada has the pockets of the CRTC (Canadian equivalent of the FCC) lined, so it's a mess over here right now (read up on UBB, because that's what's coming your way too, if you let these corporations steal from you). I especially love the line we were being told here too, that it only affects 2% (or something really low) of customers, which is total BS - because when you create a usage based billing system, it affects 100% of your customer base. It's just a matter of time before it becomes the status-quo billing format.

Just a BIG notice to everyone, The word is that AT&T's Uverse programming does NOT count towards the cap.

This means that Competitors will be at a disadvantage for "running up fees" with your ISP if this is allowed to stand.

Hulu, Netflix, Youtube, anyone who offers Video on demand type services will be in trouble.

Sure there are increases in usage during the 6-9pm block, but that is true for anything. Power, phones, etc.. increase capacity and deal with it. Everyone else does.

Sorry AT&T, you can't keep the same infrastructure for years, never upgrading, and keep rolling in the profits. I know that was a big thing back in the 80s and early 90s, but times change.

If it was up to the Telcos, we'd still be on ISDN or Dial up. Remember, DSL was invented in the 80s.
