Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew about a product that allows u to unlock an Athlon XP3000+ (333FSB). I've been thinking about getting one to upgrade my XP2400+ but I wouldn't want one that can't be unlocked (since I'm using a KT400 board I'm limited as far as going up in FSB). I know you can do it by filling the L5 bridges but I thought I saw other products that worked by adding a few pins to the back of the CPU... Any thoughts on that?

Get a mobile 2500+. They cost less, are unlocked, and OC a LOT better.

I've heard that the newer XP2500 are locked as well. As far as pricing goes, the XP2500 is going for around $70 while the XP3000+ for $115. Not that significantly more money that I couldn't afford.

I sure know it is and despite the fact that those are pretty cheap too I just don't see myself reinstalling the OS (got a RAID 0 so I would need to resinstall the OS as the controller is built-in the board... not cool).

I've never heard of a locked moblie....anyway, it'll OC better than the 3000+ will, so why spend an extra 60% for a loss of performance?

Format ever 6 months? I can't even wait that long, gotta do it every 3. I simply refuse to buy any Symantec product.

I have an XP3000 that was purchsed almost a year ago. While the multiplier came unlocked I have been using the front side bus to OC. Currently at 13x and 193 on the front side bus (2.509 GHZ). If you OC you will need a better than stock cooler (I use a Thermaltake Silent Tower) and you need to let the arctic silver set up for a couple weeks before OC'ing. If you OC with just the multiplier then only the CPU will speed up. By OC'ing the FSB the whole system speeds up. There are some XP processors that have a 266 FSB that would allow some overclock but your board will be a limiting factor no matter what you do because of the chipset.>
