audio but no video from dvd

I have a Sony home entertainment system, along with a Telus satellite monitor. I have a cable with a red, yellow and white plug in the back of the DVD. The other yellow end goes directly into the video of my LG TV. The other red and white plug into the back of the satellite monitor. I can hear music dvds and the audio on movie dvds, but cannot see the video.
