I have an LG 42" LED TV that is displaying an image but without a sound.

I'm looking for the quickest temporary solution, so I thought maybe there's a way to connect a small surround system directly into the TV via RCA connector or HDMI cable.

Is any of this possible?

It all depends on your model and the inputs/outputs.

If it is a latter spec HDMI (like 1.3 or latter) it supports audio return channel menaing it can send the audio back down the HDMI cable to the reciever (if you have a surround reciever that has HDMI 1.3 or latter).

Your TV likley has toslink (spdif) out and any reciever from the last decade has that as an input, and that will at least get you digital sound.

If nothing else the tv would have a 3.5 or rca audio out that you can connect to any receiver or stereo device with an RCA input, or even hookup PC speakers.
