Audio Lowers Volume Unexpectedly

Volume goes down by itself, seemingly random; tried another channel, same thing; turning stereo amplifier off/on and sound is back.
Is this a sign that amplifier is failing?

It may indicate that there are controls or a relay in the stereo that needs attention.
With the stereo off operate all the controls 20 to 30 times. That sometimes cleans them. Otherwise you might need a tech to service it..
