Question audio problem no 3d sounds!?

hello need help!? i have recently built my PC so i am new to this and may be missing something easy to solve however i've been gaming with artic 5 gaming headset and all of a sudden my 3d sound disappeared which meant i couldn't hear anything around me in game e.g footsteps, gun shot directions. i had been gaming on my pc for about 1 month before this happened and it was fine before. i thought maybe my headset broke so i brought the razer thresher ultimate gaming headset and still have the same problem. really could use some insight thanks
