protected under the Constitution, you are not required to give incriminating evidence.

might be the same in other countries and even if they don't have it, you can say you forgot the password so you were going on vacation and decided to bring the laptop also to see if your friend could fix it.

After doing a bit of research, it seems as though the right against self-incrimination is protected by State and Federal Crimes Acts, but there's no Constitutional protection of this right. I suppose this is not really surprising given that the Australian Constitution only has a few explicitly stated and unrelated rights (about 4 or 5) and everything else is left to the Government to decide.

Hmmmm... It`s enough to strip the clothes off a person and find the true, live, 3D material for porn.
"What are you doing with this body??!! You`re trying to get porn into the contry?? Get your ass in geil and don`t come out until you get rid of it!!!!"
So... Immaterial life form anyone?

These are probably the same people about to use the RAPeISCAN xray machines.

So what happens if you say I don't know, someone could have put something on there I don't have the password for all of the users?

All of you that are ok with body scanners and whatever else the usa gov't wants to do should have nothing to say about this (though it's in another country) just because "porn" is involved. I think the sad trend among minds today is that it's ok for the gov't to do what they have to to protect us even if that protection means shoving something up our anuses, and I mean that literally.

I think its funny that Tomshardware runs a story about censorship, have you looked at the apple comments. The only thing getting through are positive comments. The rest just say banned.

[citation][nom]randomizer[/nom]They did not ban small breasts. They've done alot of stupid things but they did not ban small breasts.[/citation]

They did... No more small breast porn.

[citation][nom]scifi9000[/nom]What you have to remember is that Australia is being run by religious zealots. I am an Australian national about to re-enter the country after being on holiday (using free internet at McDonalds in Dubai to type this actually). I have never heard of this, but I will know in a couple of days when I return. I personally like freedom of expression and also believe that censorship is for idiots, but also child porn and beastiality is just plain absusive and should be stopped. This solution (if true) seems like using a nuclear missile to swat a fly tho... typical for Australia.[/citation]

In a TrueCrypt hidden volume I believe!

With me not being the most competent or astute laptop user, who knows whats on my computer lurking in the background that either I or a friend may have downloaded, or some bot downloaded even accidently onto my laptop. Maybe you should just do a reformatting and reloading of your programs and some files.

Nobody said we are comfortable with the body scanners. All the f'n terrorists have to do is find a way to get us to implement more stupid regulations on ourselves to 'protect ourselves'. Examples: UIGEA, body scanners, no outside food or drinks on planes, take off shoes, no shampoo bottles....

Terrorists have it all figured out and the government can't get a clue. We get more restrictions placed on us by the governement than if the terrorists were to actually come and take over the USA. Terrorists get more governing done in our own country by getting the government to overreact and implement stupid laws that restrict us all in the name of protecting us.

oh come on!! Take out the middleman here. The gov't is the one who wants more power. How long prior was the patriot act written before 9/11? exactly. The gov't wanted that power at least as far back to the previous attack on the twin towers! And we are just to believe that terrorists just happen to have given the gov't the excuse to pass that "badly" needed legislation? Seems more like one hand washed the other to me. the patriot act was pre-written! No one read it before passing it because they didn't have the time. Someone certainly had time to write it though.
The gov't is incompetent, yes, but also power hungry.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about so please do some research past the tabloids before posting.

Question - what garuntee does anyone have that Aus. Customs restricts themselves to your photo files? If they have the unquestioned right to look through the files on your laptop to find porn, then they can view any file they want. The simplest way to hide a file is to change the file type temporarily - say from .mpg to .doc or .pdf. While those files won't open, what is stopping Customs from "testing those files". What the files contain may seem harmless to you, but if used out of context could land you in deep trouble. Piss off the wrong person and they may try to find something to use against you.

There needs to be defined limits, monitoring and accountability or the power will get abused by someone.
