My backlite stopped working last week after weeks of turning on and off with movment I can see windows in the dark so I know its not the screen itself so a wiring diagram would be handy thankyou

Hi,

If it was the backlight that has gone bad chances are the whole screen needs to be replaced because it uses a thin ribbon cable to connect to the motherboard. But before thinking of replacing the screen itself please do try to check first if the ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard is seated properly. You can open the laptop and disconnect both ends from the screen and motherboard then put it back in just to make sure it's seated properly. And if all these will not work I would suggest replacing the entire screen.

Here's a replacement screen for your laptop.

ye those older laptops use fluorescent tube backlights that are the mercury ones. They burn out eventually, or get shattered as they are glass. above post should be helpful enough.
