MetroPCS authorized dealer sold pre-owned phone w/secret password. Can I backup my stuff on phone before asking an official corporate MetroPCS rep employ factory reset or does that bring in the previous owner's secret password as well as my stuff?

Not sure I fully understand; how do you have anything to back up if the phone has a password you weren't able to get past?

But to address the question, no, backups should not carry over password data.

My friend unknowingly got a "new" phone from metropcs that was actually pre-owned with some kind of password. He uses the phone but use is limited by the old password. I suggested he have a factory reset done at a company store (rather than an authorized retail). That wipes it clean, of course, and he can then use his own password. I don't know what the password protects, but it is a problem. Thanks for your answer.
