Battery not holding charge - should I just leave it off?

The battery on my laptop hasn't been holding charge, so I've tended to leave it plugged into the mains to keep it going. This makes me think I should just take the battery out and run it off the mains all of the time.

Would removing the battery cause any problems? Is there any advantage - will it use slightly less power?

Have you checked your charger? It needs to provide the rated voltage under charging load.

I've had it from new and used it a LOT, think the battery is just worn out. I'm not bothered about getting the battery working - more about the best thing to do going forwards.
