Battery won't charge

On my previous OS, I had my battery set to charge to 50% and stop there and now with a completely different HDD and OS, it still somehow retains that setting??? Also I can't seem to get it to do a factory reset, nothing works, even putting the damn disc inside, it completely ignores it and boots like normal.

It's a Sony VAIO btw, last one I'll ever own.

You need to go into the bios and set your boot drive as for the dvd first the hard drive you will have a key to push when you turn your pc on example hit delete key to enter bios. make sure 1st boot item is your dvd rom ok.
