I recently tried to play battlefield 1 but the frames were so low and I would get large lag spikes. I don't think my internet is the problem since it's pretty fast.

specs:
intel i5-4590
evga gtx 970
8gb ram

I don't have an ssd. Could that help. I also thought about using an Ethernet cable.

Thanks.

I would try the Ethernet option first, since some wireless lag can and will affect gameplay. Your specs seem to be fine, so I wouldn't be too worried about it, assuming your not playing at 4k or some silly high resolution or settings.

BF1 has some issues regarding CPU's at the moment. I read somewhere a dev saying that are attempting to fix it. Even an i5 6600k will bottleneck in BF1 (will hover around 95%-100%). My i5-4460 bottlenecks my GTX 1070 pretty hard in BF1, i drop to as low as 40fps.
