BDP S3700 connection and channel

The DVD doesn't play. On an older sony TV. Do I need to set the TV to a certain channel. Do I need to HDMI cable just from tv to DVD or do I need to include the set top box?

Connect DVD to TV with an HDMI cable.
Turn the DVD on. Some TVs won't let you select an input without an active source.
Select the input on the TV you connected it to. For example HDMI 1. This would be with the source or TV/Video button on the remote. Sometimes it cycles through the inputs. Sometimes it brings up a menu and you scroll to the correct input and hit enter.
