Beats pro mic

I have the beats pro wich have two 3.5 mm ports to plug in a cable .I want a better mic, so I thought about buying a boom mic and plugging it in the free hole so I could use one cable for mic and sound. Could this work?

Those connections are so you can plug in the output cable to the PC on either side, not a microphone input. What you can do is just not connect the mic output, if the headphones are a single connection you would need to get a 4 pole to 3 pole slitter to split the headphone and mic outputs and just don't connect the mic side.
