I have an acer aspire 6930G. When I turn it on it beeps 3 times; the first two are low pitched and the third is high pitched. This repeats a number of times. It makes it to the boot screen. I can enter the Bios though it hangs on the boot
boot screen. then it goes to the screen with the flashing underscore in the top left but won't move past this though the beeping had stopped by now.

It worked fine this morning; hibernated it when I went out and now this.

I've tried to find the answer to the beeps and that suggested three beeps was a ram issue - I've popped them out and changed the slots but still nothing.

Any thoughts on if this is hardware or software and suggestions?

Appreciated.

A quick Google search didn't give me any answer for what these beep codes mean.

I even downloaded the full User Manual for your model from the Acer website and it's not even mentioned in the Troubleshooting section. It's strange, usually for other brands like Dell, HP, etc... It's rather easy to find out what they mean or there's more information on their website. Or maybe I'm just not looking at the right place on the Acer website...

In any case, I think you should contact Acer support, even if it's out of warranty at least they might be nice enough to tell you what the beeps mean. If they don't want to answer, you could then create a thread on the Acer forum (it's free) and you might have Acer specialists who will be able to tell you more precisely.

Good luck.

P.S. You could also want to play with RAM again. Like trying with just one stick at a time (one of the two sticks could be defective, not necessarily the slot).

HI MC

I tried playing around with the RAM this morning and it continued with the beeping; As i had the back off i noticed it seemed to be coming from the hard drive so I took that out and tried booting. No beeping!

However i don't have my external 2.5" mount handy or my windows disks to diagnose further - do we think this is a dead HD or a reformat may fix?

I never heard of a HD beeping, usually it comes from a small speaker on the mobo. And I never seen a bad HD causing the system to beep, maybe it has more to do with the disk controller on the mobo. But you never know. If you have another 2.5" hard drive laying around that you can reformat you have nothing to loose so you could try that.
