Hey guys, I haven't been on this forum in months, but I'm back and I need some help making a budget speaker setup.

I have zero experience with speakers and the equipment that goes with them (I'm a headphone guy), so sorry for any dumb questions I may ask.

Basically I want to get a pair of speakers for my bedroom to play some lossless music from my phone and laptop, and I need some help choosing the best equipment in my range with a budget of around $200 CAD (about $150 USD).

All answers appreciated.

Paradigm and PSB make some excellent self powered speakers but they are way out of your price range. Take a look at these.

I'm digging those Monoprice ones, definitely will add those to my list.

I was wondering how would passive speakers + amp/receiver work in my budget? My friend said he can give me his older stereo Panasonic receiver from a set which is supposedly pretty decent. Would buying some passive speakers and connecting them to the older receiver work out? I know that it can output 60w max and has spring terminals in the back for the speakers. I was thinking this is a pretty good idea since I could probably get better speakers out of the $200, and upgrade the receiver in the near future.

So would this be a possible option?

Either the Panasonic one from the set I mentioned before or I might pick up something small like the SMSL SA50, but im not too sure if they would under power or overpower. May I ask how the Pioneers are better? The Klipsch's are quite a bit more so I was expecting them to be better in some way, and like said before i'm still pretty new to this. I might see if i can find these speakers somewhere to test them out.
