I'm going crossed eye looking at laptop configurations and could use some suggestions.
What hardware would you get for your dream machine and keep the price reasonable ($2-3000)

CPU
Video Card (SLI?)
Memory amount, speed, and brand
Boot SSD size (I assume 260mb)
Hard drive size (I assume 1tb)
which laptop manufacturer has the best cooling system?

I have been leaning toward 18" Alienware or a ASUS laptop, what do you think?

Solution

keep your self inclined toward Alienware 18, as it has Intel Core i7-4900MQ processor, and an speed of 2.8 GHz , that makes it rank at the first position in the list. Has a RAM of 32 GB.
But then if you are are want some thing that is within the price range of $2-3000, then go for Alienware 17 where the...

Hope the advice will help you... :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the MSI gaming laptop is in the running. I can spec out a Alienware at http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-18/pd.aspx and order it, not so with the MSI and ASUS laptops. I need to find a web site that will let me custom build out the laptop I want instead of a prebuilt...unless I can find one close to....

CPU
intel i7-4930MX through i7-4900MQ or one with a sale on i7-4940MX, otherwise the price difference is not worth the small performance increase.

GPU
GeForce GTX 880M or some family of the GeForce GTX 8xxM series

Windows 7 64 bit

Memory
16 GB DDR3L

Drives
120 or 240 GB SSD boot drive and a
1 TB 7200 rpm HDD

Any ideals on a web site to custom build MSI or ASUS???

The Alienware http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-18/pd?oc=dkcwx03s&id=44b3a84e-a0e9-4b5d-a76c-68439c0e0429&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19#overrides=dkcwx03s:8~256G12;33~ACDAM1D;7004~A4403512
is close to my dream build...only $800 over my limit.
