Best possible laptop for about 900$

My friend is asking me to help him find the best he can get for about 900$ (Can be a bit over) and I figured this is the best place to ask . The thing is, he wants to be able to run top of the line games and from what ive found its not possible for that price range. He says he mainly plays Ark Survival game for reference. Would getting a desktop for the same price (900+) be much better? Thank you for your time and help!

Any reason he can't go with a desktop? It's not like you're mobile when gaming...
Also he can do heaps better with a desktop, Ark is also extremely demanding.

Thank you so much for your input! I will definitely bring this up to him, however, I don't think he wants to build his own computer as he knows little to nothing about how to do it as well as the fact that I'm not sure he has a monitor. Can you suggest any pre-built computers/laptops? Thank you so much!
