Better search function?

I recently changed to IPAQ from Psion 5MX after I broke the screen of the
Psion. I am having difficulty in finding some of the functions I had been
used to.

I used to be able to search the contacts and the diary for anything, but I
can't see how to do it on the PPC. For example, I know I have dentist
appointment in the next couple of months: how do I seach the diary for
"dentist" to find out when, or is it not possible?

Or, I get a phone call and only have the callers number. How do I search the
contacts for the number to find out who called before I phone back?

Start|Search would be the first place to look :)
Granted, it's in a different place but it can do the same, Psion 5mx
convert here too ;)
Also, Contacts should have a search box at the top of the contact
list that can look for anything within your contacts, how is this
working for you or do you get different/no search results?

You can't find what isn't there.

Look at alternative better featured programs. PocketInformant allows a trial
before you buy, and there is a pdf manual you can download and read before
trying to see what it can do.
btw I've had Psion's, PI is far superior to the Psion standard program in my
opinion.
There is also AgendaFusion (I think) but I haven't tried that.

Dear Andrew,

You need the 'find' facility in the start menu. It lets you select where to search.

the field at the top of the contacts screen is a "filter" not a find...
it is limited to the contact first or last name, or company, depending
on which one is selected in "view"

As mentioned, start/find/contacts/<string> will search all contact fields.

Thank you, that works fine for my purposes.
