The second one is assuming you have windows 10
If it works still, plug it into the monitor and set it to display on monitor one or duplicate so you can only see your screen or it shows the same thing on both screens
I think you can also click Windows key + p and it opens up a menu were there are four options
Display 1
Display 2
Extend
Duplicate
See if you can try this and your screen should come back on once you get to the right one
