Black screen. Fan runs. Nothing else. Period.

Dell 3500 Vostro: I can hear fan running... but nothing else. Just black screen.

Is there a way I can use the screen of another laptop (as an external monitor)?

No, you can't use a screen from a laptop, for an external monitor. They don't have the same connector. How this problem occurred?

I just turned it on a few nights ago and the screen was black but the fan was running.

What you can try, remove the battery, unplug the adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds. try booting with just the adapter.
