Blu ray player to sound bar audio

I have a blu ray DVD player with a digital Audio out coaxial cable connection and a sound bar with an optical cable connection. I've tried connecting the sound bar to the blu ray player by a converter that's coaxial in and optical out. The sound doesn't seem to be playing and I'm not sure why.

Change the audio output type in the BD player audio menu. It may not be compatible with your soundbar.
The converter may be bad.
