bluetooth transmitter help

Hello, I want to make my Harley Davidson radio headphones wireless. I bought a 12 volt Bluetooth transmitter and two sets of wireless earbud headphones. I thought I could just attached the leads from a 3.5mm cord directly to the speaker connections on my motorcycle but when I do the Bluetooth transmitter overheats and shuts down. Can you not do this? When I attach a JAM powered speaker to the jack it works just fine. Is there to much power coming down the speaker line to the transmitter? Thanks for your expertise. Keith

You are probably overloading the input of the transmitter. You can turn the volume down until this doesn't happen and adjust the volume on the headphones or use one of these:
