Boingo? ? ?

I installed Boingo software on my laptop so that I could scan for signals
while in
airports.

I now find that I must have the Boingo software running in order to make my
wireless connection.

Is there any way to disable Boingo and still keep a connection?

I don't want to remove it altogether, since I will use it when traveling.

You didn't mention what operating system you are using. I will assume that
it is Windows XP.

I don't use Boingo myself, but likely it is taking over the wireless
configuration duties from Windows own internal software. What you would have
to do is go to the
properties page of your wireless connection, select the "Use Windows to
configure my
wireless network settings" checkbox, and let Windows manage it again. Then
when you want Boingo to manage your wireless connection then you can uncheck
that box again.

Check this page out for a picture of what that properties page looks like:

Just gotta ask, why not just let Boingo continue to manage your regular
wireless connections? It shouldn't make any difference whether you're using
Boingo or Windows itself. Unless there is some annoying advertising
involved.

Thanks Yousuf --

You ask a good question. I guess the only reason I don't want Boingo to
manage my wireless connection is that it just takes a little extra time for
Boingo to open. But I probably will just live with that.

Netstumbler is another option if you do not like Boingo.
