I bought a Bose 101 Monitor at a thrift store, brought it home and it didnt drive, not even static.

I took it apart and found a piece broken, Im not an expert on audio, but I have never seen one of these before, can someone tell me what it is and also tell me if theres a way to replace it?

Solution
You can replace it. It is possible, though unlikely that there is any writing on the part that would tell you the value of it. It looks like it has been VERY hot. From reading, the actual speaker has a VERY low impedance (less than an ohm). The resistor is to prevent overloading amps. I would say a 4 to 8 ohm 10 watt resistor (whatever you can find) would be OK.

I see you also posted to AVS forum. Their answer was the same as mine.

That is a resistor or maybe a fusible link. From the picture it is difficult to tell. It was probably set as a limiter to the speaker. That speaker is "blown" because this link burned out. Too much power was applied to the speaker.

Where do the wires lead? Does the one near the fuzz lead to the input terminal?

Can this be repaired? Or can I buy a new one? or can I buy a whole new wiring system. Im pretty sure the speaker is okay, i havent plugged it into a different amp. I will try that soon. but i like the housing and the speaker and wanted to get it working.
