Kids today believe in entitlement, which in turns make a person like this. Punish me? Well how dare you. Who do you think you are? So I got bad grades, suspended for whatever, or arrested for something stupid. You have no right.

Such crap. These kids need to learn that there are consequences to various actions. Of course some of these kids have obviously not learned this from their parents for whatever reason, or least not yet, and if they don't they will have a big wake up call later on in life.

And they said my generation (Gen X) would be the ones to bring the world to an end. Maybe that skips a generation :)

[citation][nom]cptnjarhead[/nom]Or.. just another liberal refusing to take responsibility for his actions. I applaud the parents for trying to enforce some discipline..however his response seems typical of a kid who is used to getting his way. I'm sure the parents will have to meet with social services and then go to sensitivity training.[/citation]

Another liberal? Give me a break... politics have very little to do with how much kids are spoiled these days. Over here the kids from left wing parents paint graffiti on garage doors, center leaning kids are being caught selling drugs at school, and kids from right wing families are rolling their brand new Jeeps (with 6 people, 5 unbuckled) while speeding and talking on their cell phone. It's all delinquent - kids these days are SPOILED. Period.

Im curious though... What if the kid bought the xbox with his own money and hooked it up to his own monitor... im not talking about gifts he received, but stuff he purchased himself. Could he not claim theft against his parents?

Hard for parents to raise kids right when neither one of them is home...

About a year ago I actually responded to a call almost exactly like this. The parents had taken away their son's Xbox for bad grades and he went on a rampage (why they called 911) demanding it back because he had bought it with money he had earned mowing yards or something. Anyway the boy inturn demanded that we arrest his parents for theft and we procceded to tell him that since he is under age 18 he has to deal with his parents wishes or become a ward of the state. He continued being disruptive and the father was just at a loss as to what to do. He didn't want us to arrest him for being unruley but he wanted to teach his son a lesson. I suggested that since the boy earned the money to pay for the Xbox he could earn the money to also pay for the electric bill aswell so he could play his beloved toy. His other choice was to be arrested if I ever had to show up again because of his behavior and the Xbox would be confiscated as evidence (not really but he didn't know any different).

That kid's outlook on parental respect changed real quick.

If my son ever behaved like this, I'd go Major Payne on him in a split second.

This spoiled brat should do some kind of community service. He needs to be taught a lesson for his stupidity. I'm just sick of people abusing the 911 system. 911 is for emergency.

No.

Parents are well within their rights to discipline their children by taking away those things even if the child bought them him/herself.

Worse comes to worse, the parents just turn off the electricity to the ingrateful kids bedroom. He may have bought the X-box and he may have bought the monitor, but I highly doubt he's kicking in on the power bill.

No. Children under the age of 18, unless liberated, do not own property.

Sure... then the parent could claim he was stealing their electricity, as I highly doubt he paid for it...

But what cop, after hearing the reasons, would actually DO anything if the kid claimed theft? (Well, other then call him a spoiled moron and laugh in his face)

In the US, your parents own the air you breath until you are emancipated.
