Brace Yourself for a World Without Facebook

I use Facebook once or twice a day and loathe it. Other than talking with friends, there is no reason for people to throw their lives away using this piece of crap.

I don't like these "hacktivist" groups. They are basically cyber terrorists but this is one attack I would love to see happen.

Zuckerberg needs to be brought to his knees and thrown by the wayside.

The fact is they can only take it down for a small time at best. If they don't plan on taking down Facebook in the traditional way. If its through any evidence they have against Facebook that they plan to release then this will cause other problems. Evidence needs to be legally obtained to be presentable in court, Anon is not law enforcement and their methods certainly not legal to begin with. If they expect people to be outraged and cause that to end Facebook it will likely have little to no effect. As outraged as people should be they simply will not be.

If Facebook does what Anon accuses them of then I am certainly on Anon's side on this one however I don't see much coming from it.

I'd be okay with it. Social networking sites seem to have a lot of negative impact on young peoples' development. It'd be better if we didn't have these kinds of things until parents/people/government figure out a way to introduce kids and teens to these tools without it negatively impacting them. That and the amount of information that spills out of these sites into the hands of companies is just not okay. Even though the messages I send between myself and another individual are supposed to be private, how do I know there's not some loophole or easy way to access them by manipulating the system? If I had known about the lack of privacy and easy access to all my information, I would have not used facebook.
Also, if the proclaimed attack is successful, what's going to happen to my information? Will the people who are allegedly going to break the servers going to have all my personal messages? Doesn't have a good feeling about it.
At least if they are successful, even if they have all that "private" information, I'd be gald for them.

I'm fairly confident that nothing will happen on the 5th. If ALL of Anonymous was behind the attack and Facebook had recently done something to deserve it (beyond their usual modus operandi) then I'd give them at best a 1 in 4 chance of succeeding. As it is, I give them maybe 1 in 10.

That said, I really hope they succeed. I have a pretty strong dislike for Facebook and would love to see it crash and burn.

I don't understand the hatred towards social networking. You're doing it entirely wrong if you think it replaces actually interacting with people outside of the digital world. The social networking addition to society should be nothing more than an addition to your "real" life rather than an new one.

In addition, who is assuming that anything you do on the internet is private. Banking, you don't think there are people at the bank who can see your info. Email, the sender the received the admin for the email service. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera....

Woa is me a free service isn't bending over backwards to secure all of your baby photos and useless drivel. Anonymous is just bitter bunch of socially inept malcontents.

I cannot endorse the "destruction" of Facebook. Maybe a safe shut down. But I wont miss Facebook one bit. And to be honest I think Facebook as it is today is a threat to personal security and personal control, besides being abused. Other services may replace Facebook that hopefully will provide total control of personal information from the user side and virtually "0" from other sides.

I just want to point out that they may say they are going to "Destroy" Facebook, but they give no reason at this point to believe there will be any hacking done on November 5th. Who's to say they aren't planning on releasing information that shows Facebook in some illegal activity? I think that would be a much bigger blow to Facebook than some data destruction. Some hacking may hurt Facebook, but release of incriminating data could destroy Facebook.

Remember, remember the 5th of November.
