Brand new lenovo battery

hi ive just received delivery on a 9 cell battery i bought for my bosses thinkpad r61. i started up the laptop and the battery shows only 60 percent charge. is this normal. should i let it drain to empty and then charge for say 24 hours?

Seems they charged it for you and then it discharged after it left the factory. It's probably fine, you can use it.
