Man, you went all the way around the barn on that one, didn't you? No
doubt in your case as to who's the horse's ass.

That would be an interesting sight. The lights in town interfere with
seeing stars right.

Anyone who thinks a roll your own DVR replaces the many man years of
programming and the functional superiority and reliability of a TiVo is
indeed looking in a mirror when discussing horses.

Yep, I am fairly far out of town but there is a big shopping plaza directly
north of me that blanks out the sky. I am around Lat N 26 26 so Polaris is
pretty low in the sky for most of the year.

I don't know TiVo, just Replay

But I do know my "roll your own" DVR is actually slightly better than my
Replay in one area (Makes nicer MPEGs that play easier)

But the REPLAY makes up for it and then some with Theme cnannels and the
way in which it schedules shows for recording.

That is fantastic

My "roll your own" is just like a VCR, you tell it to record, say
"Smallville" which shows up at 8pm on Wed on chan 20 where I live and it
records 8 to 9pm, chan 20, no matter what's scheduled... Smallville is a
2 hour special.. You better reprogram or you loose half of it.

Smallville is going to run 1/2 hour late due to some Global Warming (IE:
The president is giving a scheduled speech) and you miss half the show
again.

With the replay... This still happens if it's a sporting event that runs
over (There outtta be a law there) but so long as the show runs when
SCHEDULED... I see it, all of it.

Not so the home rolled recorder.

Not only that but the REPLAY will, all by itself, search out and record
shows... 24, not in the lineup yet but will be soon, ALIAS, likewise,
The Replay knows I want those and is set to pounce when they show up.

Not so the ATI wonder card.

Well you just proved TiVo is better than Replay then.

I see where a person that is consistantly taken to be a horses ass would
think that. I also understand why such a person would also feel the need to
boost his self esteem by renaming himself and believing himself to be not
just mister but "Dr. Personality."

Expect they haven't been "posting here". Up until your most recent message,
this thread has been cross-posted to "their" group as well. Putting their

You're a geek that names himself after a dead cartoon character in a
show that's long past its prime, so you've got nothing to say to me.

Also, learn to spell.

No. I was given the name Kenneth with the Ken and Kenny variations more
than three decades before that animated show was created. Yes, I use 'south
park' stuff as the false email address I use but so what? You should know
that that is meaningless. You use the word affable in your email address
but you are not at all affable. You also use the term invalid - Are you?

> so you've got nothing to say to me.

I'll have nothing to say to you when you stop pulling facts out of your ass
and using them as if they're real.

>

Why? do you have trouble comprehending things when words that are too big
for you are spelled incorrectly?
That would explain a lot of your responses.

You are going to have to tell me how that is. Since the day I became
interested (Well actually the reason I became interested) in Replay is
that with Replay I can move a show onto my hard drive and watch it on
the computer monitor elsewhere... It's just a bit trickey doing it on a
slow computer and I had to get the proper codecs (The ATI card came with
it's own codecs is why it's easier)

With TIVO, at the tiem I made up my mind, this was simply not possible

Of course with both Tivo and Replay,,, watching on the recorder that
recorded it is no problem... With replay watching on the compatable
recorder in another part of the house is also no problem.

And with the Moonlight codecs, watching on the PC is no problem I said
"A bit nicer" a very small bit nicer

Which has nothing to do with why TIVO is better than replay.

Actually. I installed the elcard codec more for Nero's benefit than
anything (VLA comes with the proper codec but this computer is too slow
for VLA, this is a 366 MHz job and VLA needs 500 minimum.

One thing I failed to mention is with the Replay, the Midnight codec and
a few other goodies which either came with or are plugged into my main
computer..... Well. Wed night wife and I usually watch West Wing, This
week (Very good ep) we missed it due to watching a special on another
station.. Of course since I'm often distracted with other things when
shows come on I've told the Replay "West Wing" and it performed flawlessly.

Wife has a SERIOUS problem interfacing with anything that looks like a
computer (no problem with computers, just things that look like them,
She does not know her car can blow this laptop out of the water
digitally speaking) But the portable DVD player looks or rather feels
like a VCR once someone sets it up.

I burned the show to DVD

I hear there is a new very expensive device which combines a TIVO with a
DVD burner.... I can do that... Replay, VPR-matrix 1.8 Ghz box, Nero,
Elcard's Moonlight codecs and ........ A backpack DVD burner

I should point out the REPLAY was the next to the last item I bought
(Elcard's Moonlight decoders were the last)

The computer and all hardware was purchased and used already
