Buying a new laptop

Hello, I am trying to do some research on new laptops and am having some trouble. I currently own a desktop system good enough for the games I want to play so at this current moment in time, the laptop is more for college. I am going to be using programs such as word, excel, power point, Microsoft visual basic and later on some more advanced programming software for school. My initial thought was to get the best laptop I can afford so that it would last longer and I could even play newer games on it. Whilst doing some research, I heard that GPU's in laptops for example the, Nvidia GTX 960M are not as good as a desktop GPU, which makes sense and am now wondering if I should just get a cheaper £400 laptop and later on with the money left collects parts to build my own desktop pc for gaming.

The laptops I have been looking at so far are...
