Hi all,

The whole of my catalog is in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0. I am thinking
about moving to the Mac platform but am afraid I would have to abandon
my work and start over. Anybody know of a Mac-based package that will
import the Cakewalk bundle files?

Thanks a ton,
Mike

Mike,
I have asked this question here and searched the web for any possible means
to unravel Cakewalk bun files and didn't have any success. I did the same
thing you are about to do and ended up with Cubase on a Mac. In the end I
exported my Cakewalk files to MIDI format and then imported them into Cubase
which at least gave me a good starting point to rebuild my songs. I know this
means re-recording your audio tracks, but for me, it was very cool because I
was using newer converters which made the effort worthwhile.

If you must have the audio from the Cakewalk files you could import the
invidual Cakewalk audio tracks into your Mac-based DAW. There might be an
Intel/PowerPC byte ordering issue, but I can't say for certain.

If you discover something I've missed, please let me know.

Gary, check out what JP wrote regarding OMF ("export from Sonar 2.1 or
newer to OMF"--luckily my buddy has Sonar so he can read/export my
CWPA 9.0 bundles). I'm going to do some research into the OMF
offerings out there. Hope that helps your search too...

If your Mac application can import OMF files, you can use Cakewalk Sonar
2.1 or newer to convert bundle->OMF.

JP, thanks a ton. I've made no purchase yet...I'll research the OMF
possibilities out there.

I am not sure how well it works though.. bun->omf is no problem, but
you'd better try the omf->(some mac application) before you buy.
And unfortunately, as far as I know omf does not include midi.

The most robust way is to open bun in CWPA and export each audio track
as a wav file starting at bar 1. If there is midi tracks, delete all the
audio tracks and save project as a standard midi file.
Then, in the mac end open the midi file and import all the audio tracks.

I don't think there is any better solution if you have midi in your
bundles too, sorry..

MotU DP4 imports OMF and does excellent MIDI. I'll check a MIDI doc
later to see if MIDI's saved in OMF.
