so i am going to be vlogging while on holiday for my youtube channel but the mic on my camera is awful so i went out and brought a samsung go portable mic which for the price has pretty gd quality and it said it could be connected to cameras but im rlly confused cos the jack that goes into the mic is the same as the jack that goes into the camera, does this mean i need double ended cable?

Yes. Make sure you get the right type of jack (RCA mini, or something like that). When I ordered jacks and adapters from Monoprice I measured the outside diameter of the jack and then ordered to right one. They look very similar.

Is this the microphone you purchased - Samson Go Mic Portable USB Condenser Microphone (http/www.samsontech.com/samson/products/microphones/usb-microphones/gomic/)?
If not, could you give us the model number of the mic?

yes that is the exact microphone

Looks like the only way to connect that microphone to a camcorder is via a 1/8" (3.5 mm) cable. You would have to connect it to the headphone jack on the mic and plug the other end into the mic jack of the camcorder. the recording comes of with a rlly high pitched sqeek in the background to a point where its painful to listen to

Make sure the connections are snug and there is no play in the connections. Do you need to change any settings on the camcorder to use an external mic?

thts exactly what it was it was trying to use both mics at the same time and the default mic was giving interference thnx
