Cameron: 'iPhone is Dumb'

Fixed it for ya James.

Anyway, +1 to watching any movie on a small screen being dumb. Reminds me of an article by JeffK when the PSP came out. Basically something along the lines of "Thanks Sony, I always wanted to pay extra to watch a movie on a tiny 4-inch screen!"

[citation][nom]tortnotes[/nom]I actually dislike watching things on very large televisions. If you have sufficient resolution and are sitting close enough to the screen, then you won't have any problems. My 12" laptop screen is subjectively as big as a 30" television across the room would be because it's only a foot and a half away from my face.[/citation]

how are those awesome laptop speakers working out for ya? lolz

Um... I saw the movie in IMAX 3D and I'm just going to throw this out there...

Watching Avatar on an iPhone is like playing Crysis on your iPhone. Even if you get it to run, you're still missing out.

I like it when guys like this properly use the term epic in the industry rather than the banter that is shoveled at us from 4chan all the time. it is always good to see what the directors recommend for viewing of their movies. most of the time it is pretty accurate.

Would I watch this or any other epic movie on my PMP, probably not the first time, but if I am bored waiting at the doctors office and ran out of Family Guy or Archer episodes to watch, then I would. But regardless, I wish people would stop telling us how to enjoy our entertainment...

how about watching it on an iPad? If you're going to slag off phone and laptops, you might as well slag off the device that combines the worst bits of both......

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]Wow way to entice a backlash! Ive had this movie on my iphone as well as others for months in dvd quality and I can view them just fine. I also have 2 blu ray players and a 46" Samsung LED HDTV and I was planning on buying this on Blu but maybe not now... To have so much money and say something as idiotic as that lol... @Sliem above its not dumb to watch movies on iphone something you obviously know nothing about before you comment on it.[/citation]

yes obviously watching pirated "dvd quality" movies on an iphone looks fine, its only 4".

again, ill ask the sound question... hows the sound quality on that sh*ty iphone speaker? or do you use those amazing 5.1 surround sound headphones?

[citation][nom]realitycheck_18[/nom]If it's dumb then he's saying his story isn't worth watching, that he's just creating cool graphics.[/citation]

About on par with what I took from the movie, simple story, no depth, but man did it ever look amazing.

I wouldn't say anything is dumb until you've tried it at least once. I watched the whole first season of Prison Break on my wifes iPod which is substantially smaller than the iPhone screen and when you hold it close enough I found it to be no different than watching it on a large TV. Granted the series is more about story than special effects so perhaps an iPod for Avatar might not be the best choice.

From the same perspective there have been several attempts to market LCD glasses that have really small screens that sit within 1" of your eye, supposedly appearing equivalent to a large screen tv as well.

Speakers are not really a problem either as there are many headphones available that seriously outrank most speakers for sound quality.

I'm sure someone can pick all this apart from a home theater perspective but not everyone has a home theater setup and if they do its definitely not mobile.

All I'm trying to point out is that watching movies/tv on an iPhone(or iPod for that matter) is not as far fetched as some people are making it out to be.

Buy me a nice HD TV, James C, and I will gladly watch it on there instead.

[citation][nom]rdhood[/nom]For the graph-impaired: for a 37" 1080p set, you MUST sit less than 5' from the set to see 1080p. If you wanted to sit 8' away as the clueless restatement3dofted suggests, you need a set AT LEAST 52" to START seeing the benefits of 1080p, and 70+ inches to see FULL benefit of 1080p.[/citation]

Bullshit.

I sit 4 feet from my 50" plasma and it's perfect. Any further away and I can't see every pore on people's skin, every hair and fibre. I can't see the wonderful differences in material texture in LittleBigPlanet, every leaf and tire smoke particle in GT5 Prologue, and appreciate how actually godawful GTA4 is graphically.

It fills my direct and peripheral vision and is very immersive without faffing about with gimmicks like Ambilight and 3D glasses.

THAT is the benefit of HD, not "ooh I can see my telly from 20 feet away".

its plasma. lol

anyway, 1080p is 1080p whether your 2 feet or 20 feet away from it. the concept of 1080p is that its progressive meaning that the entire image is displayed on the tv rather than 1080i or interlaced meaning that the image is comprised of 1,080 interlaced lines.

you can definitely tell the difference between the two if you pay enough attention to it.

sitting closer or further away from a 1080p tv isn't going to improve what is already being displayed. maybe your eyes will hurt if your closer lol

I don't know what you're talking about, I'm looking forward to watching movies on my iPod Touch XL!
