Question Can I add a touchscreen to a laptop that's never had one?

The motherboard has to have a compatible port and a touch controller. If the 17R models were never sold with a touchscreen, it´s very unlikely that your motherboard has the capability to "get in touch" ;)
I haven't seen any 17R laptops with touch. Would it be possible to add the connector somehow?

Nice pun, by the way.

I have a Dell Inspiron R17 N7110, and it doesn't have a touchscreen. I've installed Ubuntu 18.04.03, by the way.

I've been in the laptop for repairs before, so I know my way around.
I wanted to know, is it possible for me to add a touch sensor to the laptop?
Something like... this? https://www.amazon.com/Digitizer-Replacement-Inspiron-TouchScreen-Non-LCD/dp/B01N9LGL5L

Thanks.

Hello!

It certainly is possible to add a touchscreen to a laptop without one because of the modern advancements in technology.
If you have a fairly new (not >5 year old laptops) I believe you can make it into a touchscreen.
Air.bar (the website) is a company that is selling this product called Airbar, which essentially is a device that turns your laptop into a touchscreen. I haven't personally used it but have seen many people recommend it.
It is a bit on the expensive side but it's definitely worth it!
