Question Can I add a touchscreen to a laptop that's never had one?

I have a Dell Inspiron R17 N7110, and it doesn't have a touchscreen. I've installed Ubuntu 18.04.03, by the way.

I've been in the laptop for repairs before, so I know my way around.
I wanted to know, is it possible for me to add a touch sensor to the laptop?

The motherboard has to have a compatible port and a touch controller. If the 17R models were never sold with a touchscreen, it´s very unlikely that your motherboard has the capability to "get in touch"

I haven't seen any 17R laptops with touch. Would it be possible to add the connector somehow?

the complete circuit with the touch controller would be usually missing and not only the connector.

Hello!

It certainly is possible to add a touchscreen to a laptop without one because of the modern advancements in technology.
If you have a fairly new (not >5 year old laptops) I believe you can make it into a touchscreen.
Air.bar (the website) is a company that is selling this product called Airbar, which essentially is a device that turns your laptop into a touchscreen. I haven't personally used it but have seen many people recommend it.
It is a bit on the expensive side but it's definitely worth it!
