Can I buy a phone and then have verizon connect it?

Hello,

I want to upgrade my phone and my wife's phone. I do not want to upgrade with verizon supplying the phones because they say it is not compatable with our family plan. Can I buy two phones on ebay (Droids) and then have verizon connect them. I do not want the 29.99 package that they require because we like the phone but will not use all the internet stuff.

you can activate phones not bought from Verizon but have the verizon network system loaded on them. However they will FORCE you to buy the internet package to activate it

you cannot use a droid phone, regardless of where you got it, without the $30 data plan, period.
