I have a Philips 5.1 home theater and a wireless 5.8 ghz wireless av transmitter-receiver http:// . I intend to use only the audio part of the transmitter and receiver (the red and white port) to send/receive the audio signal of the rear left and rear right from my home theater (to get a cheap wireless 5.1 solution).

Now I have two questions :

1. Do I need to take special care on the polarity when I cut my speaker cables (rear left and right) and attach AV cables to it ?

2. Can I directly attach the speakers (4 ohm each) to the wireless receiver (AV port) or do I need to pass the signal through another amplifier ? I fear that attaching the speaker directly to the receiver may damage my wireless receiver....is it true ?

Solution
1. Speaker polarity is important. You won't need to attach av cables to it. To determine which is plus and minus you can attach a aa or aaa battery across the wires going to the speaker. When the woofer moves out or forward then the cable that is on the + terminal of the battery is the positive. You will need one of these to connect the transmitter to the speaker outs of the Philips

2. You will need an amplifier to power the rear speakers. Get one with the same power as the Philips has for the rear speakers. I would get one with a volume control as that might make balancing all the speakers easier..

Thanks a lot...I have now successfully connected the rear left and right channels using the wireless transmitter/receiver and able to play it on a connected amplifier. However, now I have a new problem...the rear left and right channels are getting mixed, i.e, whenever I check my rear left or right using my home theater inbuilt option both of them play simultaneously. I must say that the sound is not bad (or is equally good for a stereo) but for true 5.1 media I am not getting the rear effect. Any suggestions are welcome.
