Solved! Can I hook a cable box to my internet cable

I have split my internet, one line going to internet, one line going directly to tv. Can I hook up a cable box to see if I get more channels

is this for canada or some other place and what can I do with the 8300 hdpvr that has no cable but the internet here lite speed - yeh sucks for watching tv on line - how can I get around this ?????????
