Hey guys. I was wondering if it was at all possible to upgrade my laptop's CPU. I have a lenovo y40 with these specs:
Intel Core i7- 4510U CPU @ 2.00 GHZ
RAM: 8.00 GB
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 M275X 2 GB

I wanted to play more cpu oriented gaming. If it's possible to upgrade, can you guys let me know what I can upgrade to? Thanks for your time guys!

Hi,

Open you laptop before you buy any processor. I´m almost sure i7- 4510U is soldered.
If you go to i7- 4510U intel website you will see they don´t talk about any socket like they use to when a processor is to be applied to a socket.

That CPU goes into a BGA socket so no. Because it is BGA it is soldered to the socket so you won't be able to remove the chip basically once the chip is installed on the board it will be there forever (with almost no exceptions.). You would need special equipment to remove that chip and install a new one.

BGA - Ball Grid Array

In the past ive seen people upgrade laptops with some soldering equipment but i think today they made it much harder for diy people.
