Hey everyone,

I really appreciated the help Tom's Hardware Forums gave me with building my new desktop. Runs great! :)

I've never owned a laptop, and I just don't know how to judge their gaming power based on specs too well. My friend is going to get a new laptop this summer, and he would like to be able to play Portal 2 on it. If you could, just give me your opinion on whether these three laptops could play Portal 2 smoothly, and if possible, compare the graphics power of these laptops to the graphics power of a desktop card or card/CPU combo. If you could find any graphics benchmarks relevant to these, I would appreciate that as well. I like seeing real data whenever it can be had. :)

If you like, feel free to suggest other laptops in the $600-$1000 range that are strong enough graphics-wise to play a game like Portal 2 smoothly.

Thanks Maziar, I'll have my friend look into that.

Can anyone assure me that the second laptop I posted can play Portal 2, or whether in general laptops that have the GeForce GT540M would be able to play it with a good enough CPU?

I don't really know where the GeForce GT540M stands in graphics power compared to other cards.
