Can you edit / change text messages that you have recieved from someone?

Being accused of editing a text message to say what I want it to. As far as my research has told me thus far, this is not possible.

The message locked in my inbox is the original message and cant be edited as far as I can tell.

Can you help me with an answer?

Unless you copy and paste it change the text and re send it in which case the person would recive the text from you. No you cannot edit someone elses text message.
