Cannot decide - which laptop

Hi,

I live in Europe and I cannot decide and find an appropriate laptop. I am looking for 11.6 or similiar with at least i5 CPU(preferably 2nd generation) with 250GB and above harddisk.

I don't want Mac. I want something thin and light which won't heat a lot and won't generate so much noise.
Any recommendations?

I have seen Acer 1830T with i5 but it has been already year ago and I hesitate if it is a good buy or not.

When you say you want a i5 Sandy Bridge CPU - are you wanting the full power model?

That Acer 1830T you linked had a Core i5 430UM (1,2GHz) which is a low power Ultra Low Voltage CPU.

I don't mind if it is full voltage or low voltage as long as it doesn't get hot and cause noise. I will upgrade it to 8GB, run triple boot OS(Windows 7, Ubuntu and another linux distribution). On Windows, I will be running Vmware and few OS simultaneously inside.

I really want something light and thin, preferably 11.6 and not larger than 13.3. As I need space for several operating systems so my preference will not be SSD.

Any advice and recommendation?

You probably want to stay away from the ULV type CPUs. The run cool, yes, but they probably don't have the power for multi VM ops.

This is what I was afraid of, not because I don't like Lenovo, it is because it is so expensive in my country.

1300 euro which is equilvalent to 1869$ (USD).

Any alternatives? I don't want Mac. I don't like Samsung, Packard Bell, Fujitsu, Toshiba.

Sony got hacked so mixed emotions. Asus is the one I am emotionally connected but I read that U36SD gets hot. Acer is second option.

Any other advice?

Get something with similar specs in the 14" models where the price drops off. Thin & light is expensive.
Dell Latitude E6420, Lenovo Thinkpad T420 or T420s, HP Elitebook
Any of the business models is going to be a better choice over time than the Acer's IMO.
I'd much rather have a 1600x900 LCD screen than save an extra half kilo in weight.

I don't like Dell. HP has announced that they stop to produce consumer PC's so I don't want HP. I really want something light and small. 14" is too large. I want to carry the laptop with me to everywhere.

What about AMD E-350? Asus has 1215B/N, I know I said i5 but do you think it is powerfull enough?

HP has NOT announced any such thing. And it's not a consumer laptop you want in any case.

The business class Dell Latitude and HP Elitebook are excellent choices.
The consumer class laptops are just so-so.

Any AMD E-350 will likely choke on any VM added to the Win7 OS. It's just a step up from a 'Netbook CPU.

Hp did not announce it was exiting the the laptop / desktop market.
If you read it carefully, they're ending production of mobile devices and tablets and considering selling off the its consumer PC business.
