My old Windows XP system finally died so I got a new computer with Windows 8 (64 bit) installed. So I need to do a fresh install of the software for my Canon 32 bit printer. Just on a lark, I tried running the setup executables, but I get error messages about 64 bit incompatibility. Also tried Windows Compatibility Mode, but it just directs me to the Canon website. Any ideas how to install the printer software manually?

It also seems that Canon has stopped supporting many of their 32 bit printers. No Windows 8 (64 bit) drivers are available and there are no plans to make them so. I would like to try some of the recommended workarounds to use other Canon printer drivers to trick Windows 8 into recognizing my printer, but first I need to get the rest of the printer software installed on Windows 8.

Canon has been of no help at all. They just told me to buy a new Canon 64 bit printer.
