cant get contacts in samsung galaxy star gt-s5282

when dial a number one number is pressed and do nt press ather numbers, then a msg comes saying 'unfortunately contacts not working'
as well as when search the contacts it always says' contact list is being updated'

Go to Contacts-> Press Menu to explore other options-> Import-> Now you can import contact where you have stored 'SIM Card' or 'Memory Card'. Restart you phone by taking the battery out.
If that doesn't solve your problem, do 'Factory Reset' and make sure to backup your important data from internal memory of your phone.
