Can't get HDMI audio through receiver

I have a Sony BD player (BDP-S3700) with HDMI going out into one of the input ports on an RCA receiver (RT2781HB). I then have an HDMI cable going from the output port of the receiver to an input port on our TCL TV. I get video on the TV but no audio out of the receiver speakers.

Then if I take the cable that's coming out of the BD player and plug it directly into the TV I get both audio and video properly.

I've tested the speakers on the receiver through other input settings and I get sound out of the speakers if the input comes through a different source.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I tried that. I also tried a couple other HDMI devices.

Eventually I talked to RCA tech support and they felt like it was an issue with the internal components of the receiver. So I eventually returned it.

Thanks for your help.
